Individuals with any form of diabetes can technically eat what they want, but eating meals with less carbohydrates makes medication dosing and overall glucose control less variable and generally easier to manage.
An understanding of carbohydrate content in various foods can be helpful and allows calculation of insulin doses proportionate to the amount of carbohydrates consumed (insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio).
- Always look at the serving size
- Look at Total Carbohydrates
- Choose more fiber whenever possible
