Now that you have diabetes*, it would be unrealistic to expect your blood sugars to be at non-diabetes range all the time. You have a lot of things to manage on a daily basis, and not all aspects of diabetes are under your own control. We know you will do the best you can, but that does not always lead to perfection. In fact, striving for perfection with diabetes* can be quite dangerous, both mentally and physically. One can quickly experience Diabetes Burnout, or worse yet experience a critical low blood sugar.
With this in mind, there are a number of different ways to define blood glucose goals.
The American College of Endocrinology (AACE) recommends the following A1C targets
- ≤ 6.5% for persons without serious illness and at low risk for hypoglycemia
- > 6.5% for persons with serious illness and at risk for hypoglycemia
The International Consensus on Time in Range recommends the following

For persons without Pre Diabetes or Diabetes*, fasting blood glucose should be <100 mg/dL and rarely over 140 mg/dL at any random point in the day/evening.
