The goal of correction factor testing is to determine how many points (mg/dL) 1 unit of insulin drops your blood sugar level
Instructions
1. Choose a time to test when your BG is:
- ≥ 50 mg/dL above your target
- you have not eaten/bolused for ≥ 4 hours
- you can go without eating for ≥ 4 hours
2. Check a starting BG, then take a correction bolus based on your current correction factor
3. Over the next 4 hours, monitor to see that your BG goes down; stop testing and treat if BG < 70 mg/dL
4. Ideally your BG should be within 30 mg/dL of your target BG at 4 hours
5. Repeat test 2–3 times to confirm results
