We want you to succeed with Loop as much as you do! And the most important way to ensure this is to set realistic expectations. First and foremost, it is critical that one understands Loop is not a cure. It is a very sophisticated algorithm that requires accurate input to perform optimally. And with accurate input it can do amazing things!
The following steps will take anywhere from 2-3 hours to a full day to complete depending on your level of understanding:
-
Obtain a Loopable pump - Steady can not prescribe any Medtronic pump that is Loopable as they are no longer in production. If you wish to Loop with OmniPod know you will need to use original Eros pods (not OmniPod Dash). Here is a list of compatible pumps for you to source on your own.
-
Obtain pump supplies - If you currently use a Medtronic or OmniPod pump, Steady can continue to prescribe your pump supplies. However, if you are new to either system, you will need to source our own supplies/pods.
-
Use of an iCGM - Currently the only iCGM on the market is Dexcom's G6
-
Ensure you have the appropriate goods
-
Create the following:
-
Enroll in Apple Developer Program (may take up to a few weeks)
-
Start in "Open Loop" for 3-5 days. This means you will be using your Loop app control your pump without adding any automatic adjustments to your insulin doses. During this time, you'll get a chance to get familiar with the interface and verify that your basic pump settings are good. In a sense, this is similar to how we like all persons to start pumping with saline to get familiar with the pump.
